Laura Seaquist
Wisconsin Cherry Queen
2006

Laura is a 2006 graduate of Gibraltar High School in Fish Creek and resides in Sister Bay. Laura’s parents, Dale and Kristin Seaquist are members of Wisconsin Cherry Growers and own Seaquist Orchards, just north of Sister Bay on Highway 42/57. Laura will attend Wheaton College in September and study Political Science and music.

“Ever since I was born I’ve lived on a fruit farm,” commented Laura. “Growing, harvesting, processing and selling cherries have always been a part of my life. I look forward to sharing that knowledge with others.”

Laura’s reign offically began coronation at the Jacksonport Maifest Parade on May 27. A few of the scheduled events for the season include participation in Old Ellison Bay Days Parade, hosting a visit with Alice in Dairyland in June, assisting with the FFA Dairy Breakfast and Cherry Pit Spit Competition, participating in the Baileys Harbor and Egg Harbor July 4th parades, attending the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan, appearing on “Cooking with Amy” on WLUK Fox 11 on July 17, performing live cooking demonstrations featuring Door County tart cherries at the Wisconsin State Fair in August and participating in the Sister Bay Fall Fest Parade.

“I love this industry and the people in it,” exclaimed Laura. ”I have traveled to conferences with my parents and have seen the lifelong friends they have made all because of this tiny delicious fruit!”

A $500 scholarship was awarded to Laura by the Door County Farm Bureau along with a $500 matching gift from Rural Mutual Insurance.
